The city of Moscow in Russia has hosted an international Nowruz Festivity, celebrating the Iranian new year, Nowruz.

Iran Press/Europe: Representatives of the indigenous peoples of Russia and immigrants from other countries of the cultural sphere of Nowruz including Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India as well as Russian Provinces and Russia's Muslim Republics on Sunday attended the municipality of Moscow to exhibit their customs and culture associated with Nowruz (the Iranian new year).

According to an Iran Press report, the participants took part in musical and artistic programs based on the Nowruz culture and customs of their nations and countries.

Nowruz is being celebrated in 12 countries, but it is a national holiday in 9 countries of Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Albania, with the same name 'Nowruz' in their official calendar.

Nowruz was added to the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, to commemorate the UN recognition. Iran unveiled a commemorative postage stamp during the first International Nowruz Celebrations in Tehran on Saturday, 27 March 2010.
