Syrian President said in a meeting with the special aide and adviser to the speaker of Iran's parliament that Damascus supports Tehran against the US threats and illegal actions against the Iranian nation.

Iran PressMiddle East: The special adviser to the speaker of Iran's parliament (Majlis), and former deputy foreign minister, Hussein Amirabdollahian and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed the bilateral ties and the latest regional developments in the meeting on Monday in Damascus.

The two sides also exchanged viewpoints and talked about the Iran Nuclear Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran’s policies regarding the protection of its regional interests, the United States’ sanctions against Iran and other regional and global issues, Iran Press reported.

The latest developments of Syria’s political case was among other topics that Assad and Amirabdollahian discussed.

Amirabdollahian had also earlier held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem at around midday today.

In the meeting, the two sides stressed on preserving the continued high-level coordination and consultation between the two brotherly countries.

Al-Moallem thanked the brotherly people of Iran and the Iranian leadership for the continuous support to Syria in the face of the terrorist war imposed against it which threatens the security and stability in the region and the world.

Amirabdollahian emphasized that the Syrian-Iranian relations are deep-rooted and that the two countries are in the same trench.

He added that the challenges and conspiracies targeting the two countries will only make the two brotherly nations more determined to defend their rights against the enemies’ attempts which targets the region as a whole.

In the same context, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad received Amirabdollahian in another meeting, praising the efforts of the Iranian leadership for supporting Syria.

Mikdad declared that Syria supports Iran in the face of Western arrogance, mentioning Britain’s detainment of an Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar as the most recent example of it.

In turn, Abdollahian asserted that Iran’s leadership and people stand united in support of the Syrian leadership and people in the face of terrorism.
