Iran Press/ Iran news: In the 'Defenders of Velayat Sky-98' drills held in 2019 in Semnan, 'Mersad 16' was the newest homemade air defense system that was tested successfully and destroyed the designated targets.
Upon the arrival of September 1, 2021, the day of Iran's Air Defense Force, the new generation of 'Mersad 16' was successfully evaluated against the set targets in the central desert of Iran.
Overview
'Mersad 16' air defense system can be considered the first indigenous system that all its components from the first version were domestically made. It is a result of completing the improvement of the American MIM-23 Hawk air defense system in Iran.
The most prominent changes in 'Mersad 16' compared to MIM-23 Hawk are the maximum use of new technologies such as digital electronics, advanced electronic components with solid-state technology in radars and the missile, and improved target detection and tracking algorithms and fire control systems.
The 'Mersad' and 'Mersad 2' systems were tested in several drills against low-radar cross-section targets, including small drones, in the context of harsh tests such as simultaneous attacks or attacks at very short intervals.
By testing the 'Mersad 16' system as the newest member of the Mersad air defense systems in the integrated defense network, its high efficiency against various flying targets has been proven.
Along with mobility, its main feature is the presence of a new phased-array radar called 'Hafez', which was unveiled in 2014 and has replaced the 'Kavosh' radar.
