Mashhad (IP) - People from all walks of life have taken part in the religious occasion of Laylatul Qadr (Night of Qadr) held in the holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad the provincial center of Khorasan Razavi, northeastern Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Laylatul Qadr means the night of the measure or night of the destiny is the night of the revelation of the Quran and the predestination of the coming year for everyone.

In the Quran and hadiths, the Night of Qadr is said to be the most virtuous night of the year and the night of divine mercy and the forgiveness of sins, when angels descend on the Earth. According to some Shiite hadiths, the angels present people's predestination for the coming year to the Imam.

The Night of Qadr or Laylatul Qadr, has a very special status among Muslims worldwide.

The night before Ramadan 19 people go to mosques and other religious places and collectively pray and ask blessings from the Al Mighty God.

The night is of paramount importance in Quran and Islamic traditions; The holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) for the guidance and prosperity of humankind. 

The nights before Ramadan 21 and 23 are two other occasions that are expected to be Laylatul Qadr. 

On these nights, Shia stayed awake the whole night mostly in public places like mosques and sacred places reciting the Quran, praying, and performing other rituals.

The Imam Reza shrine, the eighth Imam of Shias is one of the biggest and largest religious sites in the world by area and is one of the most interesting places for observing Laylatul Qadr rituals.

On the 19th of Ramadan month of the year 40 A.H., Imam Ali came to the mosque in Kufah for his morning prayers. Imam Ali (PBUH) gave the call for prayer and became engaged in leading the congregation.

Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (PBUH), and when he was in a state of prostration, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam, with his poisoned sword, inflicted a deep wound on Imam Ali’s (PBUH) head.

Imam Ali (PBUH) suffered from his wound for three days and was martyred on the 21st of the month of Ramadan at the age of 63 years.
