Iran Press/ Europe: Cospito, 55, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for a shooting attack on the CEO of a nuclear engineering company outside the executive's home in Genoa in 2012. He has also been convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for dynamite attacks in Italy.
The Italian anarchist began his hunger strike in late October to protest the prison regime in Italy and has lost 40 kilos so far.
He protested prison conditions reserved for terrorists and top organized crime bosses — including strict limits on the frequency of family visits and time out of one's solitary cell limited to one hour daily.
This prison regime includes solitary confinement and the prohibition of any contact with other prisoners and people outside the prison.
Protests continue in Italy at beginning of New Year
In the meantime, the students of the University of Rome have also occupied the faculty of literature to protest against the prison regime, which led to the intervention of the police. The protests have gone beyond Italy and in the past week, anarchists in Germany, Greece, and Spain attacked the diplomatic missions and cars of Italian diplomats in those countries.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said: "The government is not intimidated by those who think they can threaten our country." Simultaneously with the demonstration in Rome, another demonstration was held in Milan.
Anti-government demonstrations in Rome were held under tight security arrangements and with the presence of a large number of anti-riot forces of the Italian police.
