Why it matters:
Israeli occasional strikes come as it reached a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon's Hezbollah to stop attack on the country. However, Israel breached the ceasefire and bombed Beirut on Friday evening.
The big picture:
After waging an all-out war on Gaza in October 2023 and the response of Lebanon's Hezbollah to the aggression, the Israeli regime began a clash with Hezbollah on 8 October 2023. On October 1, 2024, Israel invaded Lebanon. Then, on November 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement was signed by Israel, Lebanon, and five mediating countries, including the United States. Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun urged the international community to pressure Israel into upholding the ceasefire agreement.
