Iran PressMiddle East: Baqer Al-Saadi, a member of Iraq's Parliament’s Services and Construction Commission announced on Sunday.

Also, it is estimated that this year the number of pilgrims who visit Karbala on the day of Ashura has increased by more than 4 million.

Millions of people from across the world on Saturday flocked to the holy Iraqi city of Karbala to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him).

Shia Muslims hold mourning ceremonies during the first 10 days of Muharram to remember Imam Hossein and his 72 companions, who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.

The day of Ashura has been marked every year since some 14 centuries ago. Some countries, including Iran, commemorated the day on Friday this year.

Ashura largest annual pilgrimage in the world.

30 days after the day of Ashura, the Arbaeen pilgrimage will be observed by many shites.

Millions of Shiite Muslims will take part in the annual pilgrimage to these shrines on Arbaeen many on foot, which attracts more visitors than the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.

According to the last figures, as many as 30 million people are expected to return to Karbala and the shrines for the Arbaeen pilgrimage on foot.
