Iran Press/Iran news: Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Managing Director Mohammad Rastad, in an exclusive interview with Iran Press international news agency said prior to the nuclear deal, extensive sanctions were slapped on Iran's shipping industry, so by using the experiences of that period, fortunately, we were able to keep the ports of the country active, in order to meet the country's needs.
On the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony of Iran's new plan of vigorous development in marine industry based on Resistance Economy held on Sat Sep 1,2018, Rastad said that at this time, when there is no full international partnership with the United States to impose sanctions on Iran, in cooperation with shipping lines and other maritime stakeholders, we can meet the needs of the country without worry and concern.
Currently, more than 150 million tons of cargo are transported annually in our organization ports, while their capacity is 220 million tones. Moreover, around 150 million tons of petroleum products are also transported annually in other ports of the country, announced PMO Managing Director.
Rastad also said that Iran's maritime fleet is one of the largest transportation fleets in the world, which with its good capacity, can transit goods of other countries as well, alongside supplying the country's needs for export and import.
