The chairman of Iran's Chamber of Cooperatives Bahman Abdollahi has said the cooperative sector plays a key and decisive role in job creation.

Iran Press/Iran news: The chairman of Iran's Chamber of Cooperatives Bahman Abdollahi speaking on the sideline of the 13th Asia Pacific Regional Conference said: "We believe that the cooperative sector has played a vital and decisive role in job creation, fighting poverty and boosting economic development in the less developed parts of Iran."

According to Iran Press, Abdollahi added: "In the fifth five-year development plan, legislators predicted a 25 percents share of Iran's economy for the cooperative sector, but for a number of reasons this target has not been achieved."

The chairman of Iran's Chamber of Cooperatives added: "Based on article 44 of Iran's constitution, the cooperative sector is considered a central plank of the economy, a  pillar of the economy."

Commenting further Bahman Abdollahi said: "Co-operative sector plays a substantial role in Iran's economy, and the importance of this sector will become more apparent in the future."

The 13th International Cooperative Alliance – Asia-Pacific (ICA-AP) was held for the first time in Tehran in cooperation with Iran's Chamber of Cooperatives.
