Iran Press/ Iran News: Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Farhad Dejpasand sent a letter of protest to the head of the World Bank Group David Malpass, to convey the Iranian government's objection to the US government's move.
Addressing Malpas, Dejapsand slammed the unprecedented hostile and illegitimate barriers improvised by the US against Iran, particularly the refusal to issue visas for the Iranian delegation, reported Iran Press.
The letter said: "The unprecedented restrictions imposed by the US government on the Islamic Republic of Iran's officials have this time resulted in the refusal of issuing visa for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Central Bank of Iran's delegation to attend the 2019 annual meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."
Not taking political approach to the economic delegations from the member states of World Bank as well as the need for immunity of World Bank and IMF Board members, are among the provisions of the World Bank Statute.
On Aug 01, 2019, also the US administration had imposed sanctions on Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the latest effort by Washington to ratchet up its 'maximum pressure' campaign against Tehran.
The imposition of sanctions against Zarif came one month after Washington took the dramatic step of sanctioning the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. 215/207
