(IP) –The Iranian men's and women's karate team won 2 gold, three silver, and five bronze medals and became the runners-up at the Deaflympics.

Iran PressAmerica: The tournament is underway in the Brazilian city of Caxias Do Sul (started May 1 and will last to 15), and “Success in Silence” is Iran’s official motto in the Games.

140 Iranian athletes in football, beach volleyball, judo, freestyle wrestling, athletics, and archery. (Men and Women), Karate (Men and Women) and Taekwondo (Men and Women) participate in the games.

The latest edition of the Summer Deaflympics was initially scheduled from December 5 to 21 last year, but it was postponed to May 2022 in January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 24th edition of the competition, which claims to be the world's oldest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games having first been held in Paris in 1924, is anticipated to involve 6,500 people, including teams, technical commissions, and deaf athletes from over 90 countries.

The Deaflympics, also known as Deaflympiad (previously called World Games for the Deaf and International Games for the Deaf), is an occasional series of multi-sport events sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at which Deaf athletes compete at an elite level.

In these games, 30 countries participated in men's and women's karate competitions.

Iran (with two gold, three silver, and five bronze medals), ten awards in total, stood in the second place after Ukraine, and Venezuela and Japan finished third and fourth, respectively.
