Iran Press/ Middle East: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has recently proposed a ceasefire in all wars, including the one in Yemen so that the world can fight the coronavirus with all its might.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi referred to the proposal of the UN Secretary-General adding, "Yemen has been exposed to the worst humanitarian catastrophe as a result of a devastating war. The aggression of foreign forces and the brutal blockade of Yemen's air, sea, and land over the past five years have blocked aid routes for the oppressed people in the country, and the spread of COVID-19 has worsened concerns over the lack of facilities and deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the country."
Mousavi added Iran welcomes and supports the proposal of the UN Secretary-General, as in the past, any initiative that would stop the war and lift the siege in Yemen.
The spokesman noted that if the Secretary-General's proposal to halt the war is accompanied by practical actions, it can be an important step to prevent the death of thousands of innocent people and a fundamental step towards peace and stability.
