Tehran (IP)- The presidents of Iran and Venezuela signed a comprehensive 20-year strategic cooperation document between the two countries on Saturday in the Saadabad Cultural-Historical Complex.

Iran PressIran News:  In addition to a comprehensive 20-year strategic cooperation document, Iran and Venezuela signed documents on cooperation in the political, cultural, tourism, economic, oil and petrochemical fields.

After signing the documents, Ebrahim Raisi and Nicolas Maduro attended a joint press conference.

The President of Venezuela arrived in Iran on Friday at the head of a high-ranking delegation, and on Saturday morning, he was officially welcomed by Iran's president at the Saadabad Cultural-Historical Complex.

Meeting with the President of Iran and holding a joint meeting of high-level delegations of the two countries are among the two-day visit plans of the President of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan ministers of foreign affairs, agriculture, communications, science and technology, transport, and tourism accompany Maduro on his trip to Iran.

The President of Venezuela said in his first interview with the Spanish-language Iranian network (HispanTV) on Friday night that tomorrow, in a meeting with president Raisi, the plans and strategies for the next 20 years will be discussed in the form of a cooperation plan between the two countries.

Iranian President says that making relations with independent countries is on the agenda of Iran's foreign policy.

Receiving his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro on Saturday, Iran's president Ebrahim Raisi said that Venezuela showed that it resisted the global imperialism and its sanctions and threats. 

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Nicolas Maduro arrived in Iran on June 10, 2022, at the official invitation of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to discuss bilateral ties.

Raisi called Tehran-Caracas ties strategic and recalled that sanctions and threats against Iran were numerous during the last 42 years since the Islamic Revolution's victory, but the Iranian nation was determined to turn the sanctions into opportunity. 

"As the White House spokesman acknowledged, the policy of maximum pressure on Iran has failed miserably; this is a victory for Iran and a defeat for the enemies," he said.

He again highlighted the resistance of the Venezuelan government and nation against the US' super-sanctions with their economy beginning to grow: "this is a good sign that proves resistance works and forces the enemy to retreat."

The Iranian president referred to the 20-year strategic comprehensive document of cooperation signed by Iran and Venezuela and stressed that there was a good potential for cooperation was between Tehran and Caracas in the field of energy, technology, defense, and economy which could be shored up and Iran was determined to do that.

In October 2021, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister met with President Raisi and Foreign Minister on Monday to sign a 20-year cooperation agreement with the country.

Raisi pointed then to the eminent launching of the Tehran-Caracas direct flight and noted that it would prepare the grounds for boosting trade relations and bringing the two nations closer to each other. 

The Venezuelan President also referring to the deep friendly relations between Tehran and Caracas, said: "I believe that the future of our friendship with Iran will be very happy and inviolable and we will witness how the new world is formed and we will resist problems and we will make progress."

Nicolas Maduro said: "Today we have left behind a period of deep dialogue and understanding and we seek to draw a clear vision for the development of relations with Tehran through the signing of a 20-year cooperation document, and to move towards the expansion of cooperation in 2022."

He said that Venezuela had a difficult period between 2017 and 2020 and that its people had endured the pressures of imperialism and had reached good conditions by resisting and passing through that period, adding: "We anticipate measures for the future of our country and we vigorously pursue our plans so that we can follow the path of success in the shadow of developing economic relations with our friends, and in this way we will use the experiences of Iran."

The Venezuelan president also said that his country would put technology at the center of its cooperation with Iran and called for the development of cooperation in the fields of energy, financing through the Iran-Venezuela Development Bank and the strengthening of defense relations with Tehran. "Iran has been able to work successfully in agricultural production during these years, and Caracas will surely use the experiences of Iranians in this field as well," he added.

Maduro added that Venezuela has set two priorities for this purpose, the first of which is the development of technology in the agricultural industry and the second priority is the production and development of agricultural products for export.

The President of Venezuela announced the establishment of a direct flight from Tehran to Caracas to develop tourism between the two countries, and announced the launch date of this flight from July 18 this year.

Maduro said his country has a unique nature and could be a good destination for Iranian tourists.

He also referred to the close relations between Iran and Venezuela in all fields and noted: "Tehran and Caracas have close cooperation in all fields, especially in the fields of defense, economy and energy (oil and petrochemicals)."

The Venezuelan president concluded: "I believe that the future of our friendship with Iran will be very happy and inviolable, and we will witness how the new world is formed and we will resist the problems and make progress."

Prior to the joint press conference of the Presidents of Iran and Venezuela, a comprehensive document of 20 years of strategic cooperation between the two countries was signed by Maduro and Raisi.
