Tehran (IP) - The Chairman of Iran's Parliamentary Friendship Group of Iran and Uzbekistan says the current $500 million of annual trade exchanges between Tehran and Tashkent can rise soon to about two billion dollars.

Iran PressIran news: In his press briefing on Tuesday at the parliament, Gholamreza Nouri-Ghezeljeh stated the official membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has been warmly welcomed by the member countries of the body.

Nouri-Ghezeljeh added: "After fourteen years of the request for membership, with the exchange of documents, the official and full accession of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was approved."

The lawmaker stressed that the relevant ministries of Iran and Uzbekistan have inked various agreements, documents, and MoUs which entail cooperation in economic, cultural, tourism, agriculture, oil, and energy fields.

Gholamreza Nouri-Ghezeljeh concluded that in bilateral Iran-Uzbekistan talks, the will of the Uzbek authorities, especially the president of this country, and their seriousness to secure relations in the economic spheres were quite evident, and they wanted to improve ties with Iran.
