Iran Press/ Iran news: The Islamic Republic of Iran recognized the independence of Uzbekistan on December 25, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 10, 1992.
The diplomatic mission of Iran started its activity in Tashkent in November 1992, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tehran opened in May 1995.
All the while, visits of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Iran were held four times (1992, 2003 - official, 1996, 2003 - within the framework of participation in the ECO summit).
272 Iranian companies are active in Uzbekistan at the moment.
Iran's vice president for science and technology Sorena Sattari, and Uzbek Minister of Innovative Development Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov signed the MoU and discussed common areas of technology cooperation and innovation.
Sattari said, "We tried to present technological cooperation models and potential capacities, and knowledge-based companies on both sides are ready to interact."
The Uzbek Minister of Innovative Development, for his part, praised Iran's capacity in biotechnology, agriculture, Herbal Medicine, and water, adding that these technologies could help solve environmental and water problems in Uzbekistan, especially in the Aral Sea.
Abdolrahmanov stated that the grounds for technology transfer from Iran to Uzbekistan were ready, adding quality management technologies, desalination, etc. could be used as a pilot in the Aral region.
