Tehran (IP) - Iran protested on Wednesday to the Swiss ambassador who represents US interests in Tehran with regards to Washington's regional policies, and in particular, recent developments and US actions in Iraq.

Iran Press/Iran News: Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, Mohsen Baharvand, an aide to Iran's Foreign Minister, urged the representative of US interests to convey the message that Iraq is an independent country and that its citizens are also freedom-loving, independent and honorable people, Iran Press reported.

"The American army has martyred at least 25 young Iraqis and has wounded countless more without presenting the slightest evidence of them being at fault," it said.

"Naturally, Iraqi people respond to the country that has occupied their land and kills their youth," he added.

"At the same time, the Americans have even bombed two points in Syria and this indicates that they are pursuing other goals. It is better for the Americans to stop giving in and not accusing our country of no reason," the statement emphasized.

According to the statement, the Swiss diplomat was also warned that Iran is not a militant country but will not sit idle against any threat and unreasonable act and will defend itself with all its might. The US government must learn how to talk to other nations and stop occupation instead of blaming others.

President Donald Trump and other US officials have blamed Iran for rocket fire that killed an American civilian contractor in northern Iraq on Friday.

They have also accused Iran of being behind the storming of the US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday by protesters angry over retaliatory US airstrikes in western Iraq that killed 25 militants.
