Rotterdam (IP) - Iran lost to the Netherlands on Saturday in Week 2 of the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

Iran PressEurope: Behrouz Ataei’s men suffered a narrow defeat to 3-2 (16-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10) in Rotterdam.

The Dutch captain Nimir Abdel-Aziz led the match with 27 points and Amin Esmaeilnejad scored 21 points for Iran.

The Persians are scheduled to meet France on July 4 in Anaheim, the US. Iran will also meet Bulgaria (July 6), Argentina (July 8), and Cuba (July 9).

The VNL Preliminary Phase spans three weeks of intense competition, with all 16 participating teams engaging in a total of 12 matches each. The stakes are high, as only the top eight national teams from the Preliminary Phase will secure a coveted spot in the Final Phase.

The highly anticipated Final Phase is scheduled to take place in Gdańsk, Poland, from July 19 to 23. Host country Poland has already secured their place among the elite, leaving seven remaining spots up for grabs. With Iran's dominant performance against Germany, they have showcased their strength and are positioning themselves as serious contenders in the race for VNL glory.
