Iran Press/Iran News: Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif held talks with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa Naledi Pandor in Tehran on Wednesday, discussing ways of expanding relations between Tehran and Pretoria.
Zarif criticized Europe’s lack of action in dealing with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and warned that Tehran will take further nuclear steps should this trend continue.
“Unfortunately, following the US pullout from the nuclear deal, we haven’t seen an effective action by Europe indicating their inability to take action,” said Iran’s Foreign Minister.
Mohammad Javad Zarif said: “Iran’s strategic patience is running out and legally Iran has stopped some of its commitments in three steps based on articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA.”
“In case parties to the nuclear deal don’t balance their commitments and words, Iran’s will take further necessary steps reducing its commitment even more,” Zarif warned.
In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.
Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to salvage JCPOA after the US withdrawal, but the three EU parties to the deal (France, Britain, and Germany) have failed to ensure Iran’s economic interests.
The EU’s inaction forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments to the nuclear deal, but Tehran says the steps that it has taken are reversible and will be fully committed to the JCPOA if the Europeans fully uphold their end of the bargain. 101/211/205
