Iran Press/ Iran News: UNESCO has announced that it would exclude the Iranian historical sites, including Sheikh Lotofallah Mosque, from its list if the country neglected its reparation and maintenance.
On the sidelines of the cabinet session on Wednesday, Ezzatollah Zarghami told reporters that Sheikh Lotofallah Mosque's Dome's reparation started 12 years ago. Still, after the scaffolds were removed, there were again problems.
Zarghami reported his order to the ministry's research department to investigate the causes of the problem, calling for identifying those who brought about the issues for the very historical site in Isfahan, central Iran.
He pointed to the UNESCO said it might exclude the historical sites from its list and mentioned that the preservation of the sites was more critical for the country than their delisting by UNESCO.
Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is one of the masterpieces of Iranian architecture built during the Safavid Empire, standing on the eastern side of Naqsh-i Jahan Square, Esfahan, Iran.
Construction of the mosque started in 1603 and was finished in 1619. It was built by the chief architect Mohammadreza Isfahani during the reign of Shah Abbas I of Persia.
