Iran Press/ Africa: Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian traveled to the African continent for the first time last Monday.
Zanzibar is an insular semi-autonomous state which united with Tanganyika in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanzania.
Iran's Foreign Minister met with the President of Zanzibar and announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic to facilitate the presence of Iranian businessmen in the African state.
The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Zanzibar on Wednesday night to meet with the president of Zanzibar and discuss the relations between Iran and the republic of Zanzibar.
Stressing that ties with Africa were a priority of the Iranian government, Hossein Amir-Abdollahain told Zanzibar's president Hussein Ali Mwinyi that commercial, academic, industrial, and cooperation between cities of the two countries were among the areas prone to cooperation.
Amir-Abdollahian then communicated the formal invitation of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to his Zanzibari counterpart to visit Iran.
Hussein Ali Mwinyi, for his part, welcomed the expansion of cooperation in different areas and announced the country's readiness to facilitate the activity of Iranian companies in Zanzibar.
Expressing hope that Iran and Zanzibar could improve ties and promote cooperation, the president of Zanzibar thanked Iran for its support for his country.
As a part of his visit to Tanzania, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived at the Zanzibar airport on Wednesday night at the head of the political-economic delegation and was welcomed by Health Minister Nassor Ahmed Mazrui and other officials of Zanzibar.
Amir-Abdollahian’s first visit to African countries as a foreign minister began on Monday, August 22.
He first visited Mali and Tanzania; he then left Tanzania for Zanzibar late Thursday night.
