Iran's ambassador and permanent representative in Geneva Ali Bahraini, in the second meeting of the preliminary committee of the review conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty stated that non-compliance of nuclear countries, especially the United States, to nuclear disarmament has put the future of the Non-Proliferation Treaty in danger.

Iran Press/Europe: The second meeting of the preparatory committee of the review conference of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was held in Geneva to review the status of nuclear disarmament, the prohibition of the proliferation of atomic weapons and the peaceful use of nuclear energy as the three main pillars of this treaty.

In this meeting, most of the member countries, while expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in nuclear disarmament and the efforts of the member states possessing nuclear weapons to deprive other countries of the peaceful use of atomic energy, requested these countries to adhere to their commitments and following the Article 6 of the NPT, moving in good faith towards complete nuclear disarmament.

Also, in this meeting, the presence of the Zionist regime's nuclear weapons arsenal and nuclear facilities outside the protection of this regime was severely criticized, and this regime was asked to become a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty unconditionally.

Ali Bahraini, the ambassador and permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations office in Geneva and the head of the Iranian delegation in this meeting, strongly criticized the lack of progress in the goals of the treaty.

The Iranian diplomat in Geneva stated that due to the policy and military programs and the continued presence of nuclear weapons arsenals of some nuclear countries, especially the United States, not only have we not come close to the main goals of the treaty, but the prospect of achieving these goals is even further away than in 1970.

The head of the Iranian delegation mentioned the main problem of the lack of progress in the goals of the treaty, especially nuclear disarmament, is unilateralism, especially the unilateral actions and programs of the United States, which has created the most important danger for the future of the NPT and the ultimate goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.

He emphasized in this meeting that as long as these nuclear policies and programs of the countries with nuclear arsenals continue and more countries, especially under the NATO nuclear umbrella, rely more and more on nuclear weapons, so there will be no progress in nuclear disarmament.

The Iranian ambassador, while emphasizing Tehran's permanent commitment to advance the goals of the treaty and the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, stated that the existence of the Zionist regime's nuclear arsenal is the most important factor preventing the formation of a West Asia free of nuclear weapons.

Bahraini noting that the nuclear weapons in the hands of this regime are a danger to the peace and security of the region and the world, considered it as a result of the application of double standards of some nuclear countries, especially the United States and its Western allies, in supporting the nuclear weapons program of this regime.

It should be noted that the NPT Review Conference is held every five years to review the progress of the goals of the treaty, especially nuclear disarmament. This is a preliminary committee meeting to prepare discussions for the 11th NPT Review Conference, which is scheduled to be held in 2026.

So far, several review conferences have failed due to the non-compliance of the nuclear states with Article 6 of the treaty and the lack of progress in nuclear disarmament. In order to divert public opinion from the jeopardies of nuclear weapons, the nuclear countries are trying to divert the focus of the world community on the great danger that the nuclear weapons of these countries have created for human society by creating fake crises and exaggerating various issues.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, along with other like-minded countries, is trying to keep the focus of the summit on the main priority, which is nuclear disarmament, in the form of the non-alignment movement. 219
