Iran Press/Middle East: Iran's consul-general in Najaf Hamid Makarem stated on Monday that the Najaf Consulate has now resumed many of its activities such as visa issuance, document verification, and social affairs services and other consular services will be resumed in the coming weeks.
About two months ago (27 November 2019), a group of rioters in Iraq attacked the consulate building of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Najaf and set it ablaze after penetrating into the anti-government protesters.
Immediately after the incident, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali al-Hakim in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif apologized for the attacks on Iran's consulate in Najaf, reaffirming the Iraqi government's commitment to protecting Iranian diplomatic sites and diplomats.
