​​​Tehran (IP)- Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has had a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, marking the first contact between the two since the death of Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Bagheri Kani wrote, "Following diplomatic meetings and contacts, the Russian colleague Sergey Lavrov made a phone call to me."

The Iranian diplomat also emphasized that multilateralism is a strategic choice for both Tehran and Moscow. "The way of multilateralism is a strategic choice of Iran and Russia for the purpose of forming a fair world, in which each participant may play a role fitting its capacities," Bagheri Kani wrote.

The conversation between the two foreign ministers comes amid ongoing tensions in the region and the world. Iran and Russia have maintained close ties in recent years, with both countries facing various international sanctions.
