Iran Press/ Iran News: North-South Corridor in the Islamic Republic of Iran facilitates the railway transit of goods from India and the Persian Gulf littoral countries to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, as well as the east and north of Europe.
Rail connection from Shahid Rajaei port in Hormozgan province, south of Iran, to Rasht in Gilan province, north of the country, has been created, but to connect to the country the Caucasus region, Russia, and Europe, more than 160 km of Rasht-Astara is necessary to be added to the line through the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On the sidelines of the trilateral meeting of Iran, Russia, and India hosted by Tehran on Tuesday, Iran and Russia signed the executive agreement to construct the Ratht-Astara route.
As Iran's Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Shahriyar Afandizadeh says, by the end of 2023, the design project of the railway will have been completed, and the execution phase will then begin in early 2024. Iran, Russia, and India gathered along with ambassadors of the littoral countries of the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the Oman Sea to Iran, gathered on Tuesday in Tehran to discuss the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
