Iran, Russia cooperation to counter terrorism

Iranian and Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers discussed ways to fight against terrorism.

Iran Press/Asia: Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Gholamhossein Dehghani and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for counter-terrorism Oleg Syromolotov held a meeting on Wednesday in the Russian capital of Moscow.

During the meeting, Dehghani described the overt and covert support of some of the regional countries and the west to the terrorist outfits as the main reason behind the growth and development of terrorism and extremism, especially in West Asia.

Iran's top diplomat also went on to stress the necessity of cooperation and the regular exchange of thoughts between Iran and Russia to fight against terrorism.

Syromolotov, for his part, criticized the double standards policy applied by some of the countries of the world towards terrorism and called for the continuation of constructive cooperation between Iran and Russia in the security affairs.

The two sides also expressed their happiness over the progressive route of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia in different fields including countering terrorism, especially in Syria. 

They also discussed ways to promote such cooperation.
