Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) of Hormozgan province in southern Iran has said the UK-registered oil tanker, Stena Impero, threatened the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz by getting entangled with a fishing vessel.

Iran Press/Iran News: "It was necessary to stop the British oil tanker 'Stena Impero' to examine the reasons behind the incident," Allah-Morad Afifi-Pour said on Saturday.

"The fishing boat's requests through the usual maritime channels went unanswered by Stena Impero so it was reported to Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) of Hormozgan province," the Director-General noted according to Iran Press.

"Based on maritime laws and regulations, the PMO of Hormozgan province reported the incident to military forces to guide the British oil tanker to Bandar Abbas harbour," Allah-Morad Afifi-Pour said.

"The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Naval forces guided the British oil tanker Stena Impero into Bandar Abbas harbour, and the oil tanker will soon reach its intended destination," the Director-General added.
