Iraq (IP) - Iran's Minister of Energy reports the ministry's preparation for constructing power plants in Iraq.

Iran PressIran News: Iran's Minister of Energy Aliakbar Mehrabian left Tehran for Baghdad on Friday to boost energy cooperation between Iraq and Iran.   

Aliakbar Mehrabian said that Iran is active in the maintenance of the Iraqi power plants and the development of its electric infrastructure as well as energy exchange through numerous power transmission lines. 

Enumerating the activities, Mehrabian said that Iran has several power plants under construction in the country.

Still, the Iranian minister highlighted the importance of water and stressed that it was not an issue of political nature and must not be represented as a political one: 

"Today, "water" is considered as the most important humanitarian issue in the region; the economic development conditions in the region have made people feel need for water more than in the past."

Water is a totally climatic, social, and technical issue, and experts must investigate, negotiate, and act within legal and technical frameworks in this regard' he added.

The Iranian minister of energy said that what is important is that the Islamic Republic enjoys the necessary experience and knowledge to meet Iraq's needs including the development of the Iraqi infrastructure.
