Iran parliament designates the CENTCOM a terrorist organisation

Tehran (IP) - In the voting session of the Iranian parliament for details of the bill to support the IRGC, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) was designated as a terrorist organization.

Iran Press/Iran news: In the open session of the Iranian parliament (Majlis), the MPs ratified a bill on counteraction to announcing the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as a terrorist organization by the US.

Among the 215 present members in Iran's parliament, 173 voted in favor, 4 against and 11 were abstain,  Iran Press news agency reported.

According to the report, the bill to support the IRGC against the US move was referred to the National Security Commission.

Based on the Article 1 of the bill, "In order to countermeasure against the US move in undermining regional and international peace and security, and since, according to article 150 of the Constitution, the IRGC is one of the pillars of governance defense of Iran, the bill declares the US Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization and any assistance, such as military, intelligence, financial, technical, educational, services and logistical support to these forces in order to confront the IRGC and the Islamic Republic of Iran, are considered to be terrorist acts.

The MPs also voted for article 7 of the bill to counter the US move to put the name of IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations.

According to the report by Iran Press, among the 205 present MPs, 170 voted for, and 5 other voted against the article 7 of the bill.

Article 7 of the bill read: "All countries that follow the US decision to declare or support the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization in any way, are subject to reciprocity act.

Meanwhile, in this session, Iranian lawmakers appreciated the decision of Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to appoint Brigadier General Hossein Salami as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Crops.

In a Tuesday statement, more than 200 members of the Iranian Parliament voiced their strong support for the new IRGC commander.

"This appointment carries a clear message to the United States and the Global Arrogance and also to the world of Islam; this shows the continuation of Imam Khomeini’s bright path toward the constant fight against arrogance and to fully support Islamic Resistance," reads part of the statement.

Parliamentarians also appreciated the efforts of Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari during his tenure.

On Sunday, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei appointed Salami as the new commander of IRGC while also promoting his military rank to major general.
