Iran Press/ Iran news: Announcing this news, 2nd Brigadier General Ali Akbar Abbas Tajaddod said: "The Rapid Reaction Unit of the Northern Air Defense Zone was sent to this region to monitor, protect and safeguard the stable airspace security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and to strengthen the Northwest forces.
Stressing that the red line of the Iranian Armed Forces is a threat to the security and well-being of the people and the territorial integrity of the country, Ali Akbar Abbas Tajaddod said: "The enemies should know that if they make the slightest move against the security of the Islamic system, they will be encountered with severely.
"The border areas of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province in Khoda Afarin County with a length of 135 km are adjacent to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict lines between the military of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Since the beginning of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, dozens of mortar shells have hit our country's lands in Khoda Afarin County.
On Friday, the 6th November, the commander of Iran's Army base in the northwestern operational district, Brigadier General Ali Hajiloo, announced the military units' deployment on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Referring to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over the Karabakh region, Gen. Hajiloo said that the ground force in the northwest has a mission to prevent any possible threats and insecurity.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory has remained under illegal Armenian occupation for nearly three decades.
In late September, Azerbaijan declared a state of war in some of its cities and regions following Armenian forces' attacks on military and civilian sites.
Since the beginning of the new round of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on October 27, 2020, dozens of mortar shells have hit Iranian territory in Khodaafarin.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which belongs to the Republic of Azerbaijan, began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992.
The new round of tension begun last month at the border and escalate further with a barrage of missile attacks between the two countries cities.
