Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs summons Russian Amb.

Tehran (IP) - The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Tehran was invited by the Assistant Minister and Director General of Eurasia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain the published insulting photo.

Iran PressIran news: Levan Jagarian expressed regret that the photo has caused misunderstanding and resentment among the patriotic people of Iran.

He stated during the meeting that his intention to publish this photo was merely a reminder of Russia's alliance with Britain against the Nazi army during World War II and that there was no anti-Iranian motive behind the photo.

While emphasizing the strategic relations between Iran and Russia and the deep and friendly relations between the two countries, the Russian ambassador stated: "I regret that the publication of this photo has caused misunderstanding and resentment among the patriotic people of Iran.

After hearing the ambassador's explanations, the Director-General of the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, while emphasizing the friendly relations between Iran and Russia, reminded him that the posting this photo, even with the stated intention, was not acceptable and paying necessary attention to the historical, political and cultural requirements of the host country is one of the issues that the ambassadors should carefully consider.

It was also emphasized in the meeting that the great nation of Iran has repeatedly proved over the past 42 years that it has carefully and seriously protected the independence it has gained through sacrifices and historical resistance and, as a powerful country, has maintained its relations with other countries based on national dignity. 

The publication of a photo of the meeting between the British and Russian ambassadors at the Russian embassy in Tehran, which some cyberspace users considered to be a visual reminder of the meeting between US, Soviet, and British leaders during World War II, provoked serious reactions from Islamic Republic officials.
