Iran Press/ Iran news: Mersad operation was started on July 27, 1988 in order to counter the attack of the MKO terrorist outfit who were supported by the Saddam regime, in Kermanshah province, western Iran.
Two days before the operation of Mersad, the members of notorious MKO, who gathered their forces on the Iran-Iraq border and were equipped by the former Iraqi regime with heavy and semi-heavy weapons, began to invade Iran's territory.
The ringleaders of the MKO thought that their forces would pass through the main roads of Iran without encountering any major obstacles and would reach Tehran in a short period of time and capture the capital of Iran, but the Iranian forces observed a large number of elements of the terrorist group in the operation. They surrounded the MKO members in the Patag (villegee in western Iran, and after three days of fighting, they finally won.
The Arabic word "Mersad" means ambush; This name was intended for this operation because of the planned ambush that the military forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran had carried out.
More than 4,800 members of the MKO (The Mojahedin-e-Khalq terrorist group) were killed and wounded in the operation of Mersad, of course, there were a large number of senior members of this terrorist outfit among the dead and detainees.
