Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed the release of Majid Taheri, an Iranian physician held in US jails on sanctions-related issues, calling on Washington to release all other Iranian citizens taken “hostage”.

Iran Press/Iran news: "Pleased that Dr. Majid Taheri and Mr. White will soon be joining their families. Prof. Sirous Asgari was happily reunited with his family on Wednesday," Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet on Thursday night.

"This can happen for all prisoners. No need for cherry-picking. Iranian hostages held in—and on behalf of—the US should come home," he noted.

Earlier, The Associated Press has cited US officials that Michael White, a Navy veteran detained in Iran has been released and started making his way home, with the first leg on a Swiss government aircraft.

A US federal judge issued an order to free Majid Taheri who had been imprisoned in the US on false charges, allowing him to go see family in Iran.

On Wednesday (June 3), another Iranian scientist Sirous Asgari who had been imprisoned in the United States has returned to the country.

Dr. Asgari, 59, was taken to custody in the United States in November 2019 on charge of circumventing US trade sanctions, but he was re-arrested by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement despite acquittal by the US court of justice. 101
