Iran PressEurope: More than 52 people have been killed in an explosion and fire at the Listvyazhnaya mine near the Kuzbass region in Russia's Kemerovo province (Siberia) on Thursday morning.

A total of 285 people were at the mine at the time of the accident, Sergei Tsivilyov, the governor of Kemerovo, said hours ago.

Dozens of people were also injured in the incident.

The Russian government has launched an investigation into the incident.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday offered his condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the Russian government to provide all necessary assistance to the injured. 219
