Iran Press/Europe: In response to the reporters on Wednesday, Kazem Gharibabadi said the letter calls on member states of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to address the issue at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors and the general conference.
The letter added that although the Israeli regime's nuclear capabilities and relevant threats have for decades been on the agenda and the IAEA and UN with numerous resolutions approved about the issue.
It said the Israeli regime refuses to sign NPT and expose all of its nuclear facilities and activities to IAEA's inspectors.
It is a clear contradiction that a non-member of the NPT enjoys full rights and benefits due to membership in IAEA and, while refusing any responsibility, it participates in all consultations and meetings of the Agency concerning the members of the NPT, the letter added.
Gharibabadi stressed in the letter that the Director-General of the IAEA must explicitly urge the Israeli regime to immediately and unconditionally join the NPT, as a free nuclear-weapon-holder, provide all materials, and submit its nuclear facilities to the agency's comprehensive safeguards.
Israel is believed to be the only possessor of nukes in the Middle East and estimated to have between 200 and 400 nuclear warheads in its arsenal. The regime, however, pursues a policy of nuclear opacity under which it neither confirms nor denies possession of nuclear arms.
