The Iran men’s national football team, domestically known as Team Melli, has defeated Uzbekistan in a friendly fixture as part of its preparations for the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup.

The math took place in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in front of 20,000 spectators.

Rouzbeh Cheshmi scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute with a header.

Carlos Queiroz fielded the youngsters including Majid Hosseini, Ali Gholizadeh, Hossein Hosseini, Mohammadreza Khanzadeh, Mehdi Torabi and Amir Abedzadeh in this match.

Iran will play Turkey next week before playing Greece and Lithuania.

Team Melli have been drawn in Group B of the 2018 World Cup along with Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
