Iran Press/ Iran News: The signing ceremony was attended by Majid Chegeni, Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Mehdi Sobhani, Iranian Ambassador to Yerevan, Aram Ghazaryan, CEO of Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, and Gnel Sanosyan, Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures.
Under the extended agreement, the ratio of gas exchanged for electricity has been amended in favor of NIGC. This revision ensures a more favorable outcome for Iran.
The initial agreement on the new contract was reached during Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Tehran in November 2022. The finalization of the document took place on August 10.
Iran’s pipeline for exporting gas to Armenia has an impressive annual transmission capacity of over one billion cubic meters (bcm). This infrastructure enables a steady flow of natural gas between the two countries.
This extension of the gas-electricity swap deal between Iran and Armenia until 2030 signifies a continued commitment to bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
