IP- Iran and Japan are sharing their experiences in retrofitting hospitals and regeneration of historic urban areas through the UN-Habitat and the NHC.

Iran PressIran news: In a meeting at Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Iran and Japan shared their experiences in the resilience of hospitals and historic urban areas with the presence of experts from the UN, the UN-Habitat office in Tehran, the National Habitat Committee (NHC), and the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture on December 24. 

According to Arman Khoorsand, the Secretariat of the National Habitat Committee (NHC), in the meeting experiences of Japan in the construction near the fault were shared. Also, in this meeting, future collaborations and joint projects between the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, the UN-Habitat, and Japan were further discussed. 

Following the successful implementation of the first phase of the National Urban Policy Programme (NUPP) in Iran in an attempt to achieve an integrated framework for urban planning and sustainable urbanization, NUPP I will soon be approved by Iran's Supreme Council of Urban Planning and Architecture. After approval, and upon implementation, Iran and Japan can cooperate in the regeneration of dilapidated urban areas and historic urban areas. Additionally, with the implementation of this document, Iran will be able to use international funds to regenerate historic urban areas. 

Noteworthy, the specialized workshop on the experiences of Iran and Japan will be held next week with the presence of the United Nations International expert and senior directors of the UN-Habitat in Tehran, Masakatsu Miyajima, in cooperation with the Construction Engineering Organization and 'the Executive Organization for Public and Government Buildings and Infrastructures', and with the presence of 200 engineers in Mazandaran Province which is the site of the 'Project for Improving the Resilience of Hospitals' (BEHTAB II). 

In May 2023, following previous negotiations, the implementation process of the second phase of the 'Project for Improving the Resilience of Hospitals' (BEHTAB II) was formally kicked off for retrofitting Ayatollah Tabarsi Hospital in Sari through a joint partnership of Iran and UN-Habitat.
