Iran Press/Iran news: Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi, Commander of the Border Guards of the Iranian Police, on Wednesday during a meeting with Hashim Aurtaq, Afghanistan Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter Narcotics, in Tehran, said: "Cooperation and coordination between Iranian and Afghan border guards in the fight against narcotics should be practical and serious."
Saying that border guards are at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking, Brigadier General Goodarzi added that joint and simultaneous patrols on the Iranian-Afghan border will contribute to the sustainable security of the borders.
Afghanistan Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter Narcotics, Mohammad Hashim Aurtaq, referring to the production of 84% of the world's opium in Afghanistan, said that due to the presence of Taliban forces in some border areas and provinces of Afghanistan, the country is struggling to fight drug cultivation and production.
"Afghanistan understands the concern and sensitivity of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fight against drugs," Aurtaq said and expressed hope that part of the existing gaps would be filled by amending and revising the anti-narcotics laws and take more effective steps to deal with drug traffickers.
