Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to reporters in a press conference on Wednesday, Iran's minister of interior, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said the flood crisis is under control in most provinces across Iran and that the worst of the crisis is over in the sense that there is no further damage in those areas.
According to an Iran Press report, Rahmani Fazli stressed that some exceptions include the areas where the land is still inundated, for example in the towns of Aqqala and Gomishan, and also in Lorestan province.
However, he went on to mention Khuzestan (in Southwestern Iran) as the province where management of dams is of critical importance. Rahmani Fazli said rivers from five or six provinces converge in Khuzestan province and we must manage the flow of water in this province.
Referring to 10 existing dams in the Southwestern province of Khuzestan which are full of water right now, the Interior Minister said given the high levels of water behind dams, it is necessary to increase the water output of all the dams in the province. He added: "Increasing water output from the dams is risky since the potential for overflow and flooding is there, and some villages and towns close to rivers in Khuzestan province may be at risk."
Rahmani Fazli's remarks came on the sidelines of the Iran National Crisis Management Committee meeting.
