Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Interior Minister, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, has said we will turn election day into a celebration of resistance to prove that the ultimate goals of the Revolution can be achieved this way.

Iran Press/Iran news Speaking at Iran's Election Headquarter on Friday, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli noted that voting is underway in all 31 provinces of the country and throughout the 207 constituencies and 55,000 polling stations.

"The election for the Assembly of Experts is also underway in five provinces. We hope that we can receive people's votes based on the preparations that we have made and in a healthy and legal manner," he said.

Rahmani Fazli went on to say that the Iranian people should cast their ballots in good time --  during the 10 hour voting period -- so that they shouldn't face a last minute rush as the polls are about to close. 

"Today is an important day and as the Leader has described it as a general jihad, we should show that we are following the path of the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace) and the martyrs of the Revolution," he added.

Iran's interior minister also said the Iranian people will turn this day into a celebration of resistance, thus proving that we can achieve the ultimate goals of the Revolution this way."

Iran’s 11th parliamentary elections and the midterm elections for the Assembly of Experts – a body whose members oversee the Leader of the Islamic Revolution – simultaneously started on Friday morning.

The results will determine 290 elected parliamentary members as well as 7 elected members of the Assembly of Experts.

A total of 57,918,000 Iranians are eligible to cast their votes on Friday. 101/211/205
