Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking on Sunday with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan by telephone, President Hassan Rouhani congratulated the Pakistani nation and government on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and said, “Iran and Pakistan have always been friends and brothers, and will continue as such”.
“Iran is seeking to develop cooperation and relations with its neighbouring countries, especially Pakistan in different fields, including the development of common border markets,” he said, according to the official website of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Iran does its best to ensure security in the Persian Gulf
The President added, “Because of the unilateral, unjust sanctions of the United States, Iran is in special conditions, but it will make its best effort to ensure free and secure navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, as well as development of commercial and economic relations with its neighbours”.
He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always made efforts to reduce tensions and unrest in the region, and we believe that the Muslims of Kashmir must be able to use their legal rights and interests to be able to live in peace”.
Iran urges diplomatic solution for Kashmir issue
Iran calls on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stop the insecurity and the killing of innocent people in Kashmir, said Rouhani, adding, “The issue of Kashmir has never had a military solution, and we should use diplomacy and negotiations to resolve the issues”.
In the same phone call, the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan also congratulated the Iranian nation and government on Eid al-Adha and described Iran-Pakistan relations friendly and brotherly, stressing the development of Tehran-Islamabad relations.
On Kashmir, he said, “Unfortunately, Kashmir is going through unfortunate incidents against innocent people lately, which are against international regulations”.
Pakistan is deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions in the region, he said, adding, “As an important country in the region and the World of Islam, the Islamic Republic of Iran can play a positive role in the settlement of the Kashmir issue”.
