During his visit to Tehran, Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), toured Iran's key nuclear sites—Fordow (Shahid Ali Mohammadi) and Natanz (Shahid Ahmadi Roshan)—on Friday, November 15.

Iran PressIran news:  The visit followed meetings with top Iranian officials, including the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), the Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Grossi was accompanied on his visit by Behriz Kamalvandi, the AEOI’s Deputy for International, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs.

The visit comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the IAEA. Earlier, Grossi had held significant talks with President Pezeshkian, where Iranian officials reiterated their commitment to peaceful nuclear development. Grossi also engaged with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and AEOI head Mohammad Eslami, with discussions focusing on Iran's adherence to international agreements, particularly the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and IAEA safeguard protocols.

During these meetings, Iranian officials underscored that Iran's nuclear activities were strictly for peaceful purposes, in line with a religious decree by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei prohibiting the development of nuclear weapons. They also criticized the U.S. and European powers for failing to honor the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which had been intended to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Despite tensions and external pressures, including ongoing concerns over Iran’s nuclear sites, the Iranian leadership has emphasized its readiness to continue cooperation with the IAEA to resolve any ambiguities. Grossi, for his part, expressed hopes for a new chapter in Iran-IAEA relations, stating that good engagement could neutralize external efforts to politicize Iran’s nuclear program.
