Qom (IP) – On the first night of Muharram month, a black flag was hoisted in Hazrat Masoumeh's (SA) holy shrine in Qom, south of Tehran, for Muharram mourning.

Iran PressIran News: More than 1,300 years ago, in 61 AH, Imam Hussain (AS), a grandson of Islam's Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.

The black flag was hoisted in the dome of Hazrat Masoumeh's (SA) holy shrine in the presence of pilgrims, students, and foreigners mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions.

The holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (AS) hosts pilgrims and mourners during Muharram month, especially in Tasua and Ashura, the 9th and the 10th day of Muharram.

The groups of mourners from different countries studying in the seminaries of Qom mourn on Ashura every year while entering the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA).

Today (Wednesday), July 19, is the first day of the month of Muharram, and like every year, Iranian people wear black and mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions in the month.
