Tehran (IP) - The Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran called the United States and the European Union the harbingers of unilateral sanctions.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at the first International Conference on Human Rights focused on cruel sanctions impact on patients' health held on Wednesday, the Vice-President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran Kazem Gahribabadi said:

"The Secretary of the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that sanctions are divided into two categories, international sanctions and unilateral sanctions." He added: "International sanctions are subject to limitations based on Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter, and some of the provisions of this charter emphasize the observance of human rights."

Gharibabadi continued: "Unilateral sanctions do not mean that other countries should follow them, and the United States and the European Union are harbingers of unilateral sanctions, and therefore, the sanctions of the European Union are not international, but unilateral."

He further stated that a country cannot impose sanctions on other countries and added: "America imposes its decisions on other countries today."

Emphasizing that unilateral sanctions are against human rights, Gharibabadi said: "Countries that support unilateral sanctions and implement them, their action is against human rights and violate their obligations towards human rights."

Pointing out that the countries that claim to be defenders of human rights are violating it, he said: "Today, the countries that say to stop executions cause tens of thousands of people to die every year thanks to the policies they implement."

Gharibabadi said: "Today, the United States and European countries seek to destroy infrastructure and endanger human lives by implementing sanctions in various fields."

Pointing out that the West calls Iran a human rights violator, he said: "Without any reason or trial, the authorities put us on their sanctions list and there is no trial in this area."

the Vice-President of Iran's Judiciary for International Affairs, stating that the sanctions lack human rights, lack legitimacy, and are contrary to the UN Charter, stated: "More than 44 reporters work in the field of sanctions under the supervision of the United Nations, and when a reporter was supposed to be selected" regarding Iran sanctions, the European countries opposed him, while these countries claim to support human rights, but European countries cannot even bear to hear criticism in the field of sanctions."
