Iran Press/Europe: Authorities arrested a 50-year-old man at the attack site in Magdeburg on Friday evening for questioning. He has lived in Germany since 2006 and practiced medicine in Bernburg, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Magdeburg.
German media identified the suspect as Taleb Al Abdulmuhsen, an atheist ex-Muslim pro-Israel Zionist and a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy.
As of Saturday, the motive for his actions—driving his black BMW into a crowd in the eastern German city—remained unclear.
Describing himself as a former Muslim, he regularly tweeted anti-Islam content, criticized the religion, and praised Muslims who left it. He also accused German authorities of inadequately addressing what he perceived as "Islamism in Europe."
Some described him as an activist who assisted Saudi women in fleeing their country, while he also supported the far-right, anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
