The German ambassador to Oman, Thomas Schneider, emphasized on Sunday that the European Union was seeking a mechanism to preserve and strengthen the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

In a meeting with Iran's ambassador to Muscat,  Hojatoleslam Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi, Schneider said Germany is making a determined effort within the EU, and in close cooperation with Iran, to preserve the deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Referring to US President Donald Trump's decision to unilaterally withdraw his country from the JCPOA, Schneider  said Berlin was concerned about lack of commitment on the part of certain countries to international pacts and agreements.

For his part, the Iranian envoy, Nouri Shahroudi,  referred to the latest reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency verifying Iran's commitment to its obligation under the deal, saying Tehran will not accept any change in the JCPOA.

The meeting took place on Sunday at the Iranian embassy in Muscat, with the  aim of reviewing cooperation and coordination between Iran and Germany on the nuclear deal.  US president, Donald Trump decided to walk away from the nuclear agreement on 8  May, despite opposition from the European Union.
