COVID-19

The former chairwoman of the UK Vaccine Taskforce suggested that the COVID-19 vaccine could be replaced with improved formats such as nasal sprays or pills that could be sent via post.

Iran PressEurope: Kate Bingham, who stepped down as chairwoman of the UK Vaccine Taskforce on January 1, also said officials would need to establish quicker ways of administering coronavirus inoculations in order to protect the public as quickly as possible.

Her comments came amid mounting concerns over Britain’s AstraZeneca vaccine supplies, with the EU threatening to ban exports from the bloc amid crippling shortages across Europe.

Bingham told Sky News, "We need to improve the vaccine formats because, frankly, two injections delivered by healthcare professionals is not a good way of delivering vaccines."

She added that the UK should be looking much more ambitiously at how it could administer vaccines in the future.

Bingham went on to say, "The current vaccination program is daunting logistically and we do not want to be doing this every year."

She said new ways of protecting people could involve medicines that are "oral, such as pills, or buckle under the tongue, or even patches, or intranasal nose sprays, or anything that can be sent in the post so you could drop it off through Amazon or sent in the post".
