Iran Press/Europe: French police fired tear gas at protesters in Nantes during a rally over the death of Steve Maia Caniço, who disappeared in late June at a concert where police clashed with late-night revellers by the riverbank in Nantes. His body was found in the Loire River earlier this week, reported Iran Press citing France 24.
At least 30 people were arrested this morning on the fringes of the rally, according to French Newspaper Ouest-France.
Since the movement began on 17 November 2018, tens of thousands have marched every Saturday through the streets of France, airing a number of grievances, ranging from taxes on fuel to President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies.
French protesters, who call themselves the "Yellow Vest Movement", see Macron's policies as stepping up pressure on French citizens, and they see him as out of touch with ordinary French citizens. They are demanding his resignation.
According to a recent poll conducted by Odoxa Institute for French Radio and the Le Figaro newspaper, three-fourths of French people are not satisfied with Macron's performance. 203/211/218
