Iran Press/America: George H.W. Bush suffered from a type of Parkinson's disease and had been hospitalized several times in recent years.
"Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died," his son, former President George W. Bush, said in a statement released by family spokesman Jim McGrath, Reuters reported.
George H.W. Bush was president from 1989 to 1993. Before that, he served as vice president under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989.
Bush presided during the collapse of the Soviet Union and the final months of the Cold War. He also formed a coalition of nations to attack Iraq after former dictator Saddam Hussein had invaded Kuwait. George H.W. Bush also shared the blame for shooting down of an Iranian passenger airliner Iran Air Flight 655.
On July 3rd, 1988, a commercial passenger airliner, Iran Air Flight 655, was flying along its official operating route from Tehran to Dubai. While in flight, the Airbus-A300 was shot down by a United States Navy guided missile cruiser named the USS Vincennes, using two SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles.
All 274 passengers and 16 crew, were killed in aviation’s 8th deadliest air-disaster of all time. Of the 290 people on board, 254 were Iranian.
Despite this tragic ‘incident’ stinking of international terrorism, George H. W. Bush, at the time vice president of the United States in the Reagan administration, defended his country at the United Nations by claiming that the US attack had been a wartime incident and that the crew of Vincennes had acted appropriately under the circumstances. 101
