'It is Iran that is blocking them to achieve some of their ends and ambitions,' Zarif said at a meeting attended by officials from the Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture in Tehran.
He emphasized, the enemy is after targeting today's Iran with its strategic geographical position, historical entity, rich resources and great people.
Zarif blasted all those who have criticized the nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for being flawed, saying that the JCPOA was not the only international agreement that the US president pulled the US out of it.
He noted that Trump, in addition to the JCPOA, has so far left the Paris climate change agreement, Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as NAFTA and some other international pacts, asking “were those agreements flawed too?”
In an interview with euronews on last Thursday, Iran's deputy foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has warned that the Europeans need to show more commitment, more flexibility, and more sacrifice if they want to save the nuclear deal with Iran (known as the JCPOA)
The Iranian foreign minister said that he was sure the Americans would have tougher a time as a result of Trump’s policies. saying “in the past, the Americans used to sit in the White House and would do nothing and the Europeans as their pawns would do everything for them. But nowadays, we can see that the Europeans, contrary to the past, are not only not with the Americans but also they are opposed to them and do not accompany them.”
Also, Velayati deplored a recent letter signed by a number of Iranian reformist figures who demanded the country’s officials hold direct negotiations with the US to resolve the standoff over the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
On May 8, US president Donald Trump announced America's withdrawal from the JCPOA, despite strong opposition from America's European allies. The JCPOA is a landmark nuclear deal signed in 2015 after years of negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 Group (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has underlined that any decision to keep the JCPOA running without the US should be conditional on “practical guarantees” from the Europeans.
